Cyberdog Clothing
The emergence of cyber clothing in the Goth subculture keeps growing stronger. Its origins can be traced back to the European rave, industrial, hard house, power noise and electronica music scene.
Cyber fashion is futuristic clothing which incorporates technology, sci-fi, anime and fantasy. Cyber Goths are easily identifiable in the local nightclubs as they are usually adorned with UV reflective clothing and accessories, biohazard symbols, platform boots, colorful, metallic hair extensions, elaborate goggles and are usually heavily armed with ray guns and glow sticks. Cyber Goths are interested in technological advancements in society, love science fiction and tend to have fetishes for circuit boards and robots.
The invasion was subtle at first, there seemed to be only two or three people wearing their bright and happy, neon colors weaving around the dance floor like exotic, saltwater fish emanating their eerie, luminescent glow in the dark, inky waters of the vast ocean. Then I started to notice there were more and more of them. This new trend in fashion and science fiction seemed to be taking over. Like a moth to a flame I started to feel myself becoming attracted to these warm, phosphorescent pillars of light which began overwhelming my senses and my absinthe soaked mind with their shiny accessories and scintillating demeanors. I needed to find out how this completely new and fresh style of clothing was being created. I needed to know how we were being assimilated.
"The idea came out of the club scene of the early 90’s, when clubbing was at its peak in London, yet there wasn’t really a clothing brand as interesting as the music we were all dancing to. Electronic music has always been an inspiration for us, and by definition electronic music is futuristic. It was a logical progression to do futuristic and alternative clothes to match this. We know that fashion is addicted to Retro, so our battle is to kill retro and leap forward all the time. If people have fun with our clothes at the same time then that is great, but retro thinking will halt mankind’s development, and will ultimately bring our world to a standstill. We were also all sick of Retro! We hate Retro! That is Chi Chi’s mission. To kill Retro! Look forward not back."
After much probing I was able to uncover that Cyberdog is actually owned by a 3000 year old space alien named Chi Chi who has taken the earthly form of a Chihuahua. I realized I had seen his face many times before as the company logo. He is the Cyberdog. When he came to earth he became homesick and found two talented and submissive clothing designers named Terry Davy and Spiros Vlahos. Fifteen years ago they were taken aboard the Earth Ship by Chi Chi and taught how to make futuristic clothing and presumably, tasty dog biscuits. Ever since then, they have been making clothing specifically for a space Chihuahua to wear.
Cyberdog’s favorite fabric to work with is made from Plutonium and nearly all the materials they use are from the star Procyon (Before the Dog) or Sirius (Dog Star). Most of their clothing is made in London but the more complicated designs are made on Mars.
"We try to use fabrics that most people don’t use, and try as much as possible to not follow the high street trends. Instead we like to set trends. It’s hard in these days of mega brands to do this, but we have to keep trying. We try never to follow the other brands, and push the boundaries of what is possible."
With new designs being made every 28 minutes it’s not surprising they have the universes largest independent collection with over 1000 options per season. They carry a vast selection of clothing and accessories for both men and women. There is no way I could even begin to describe the ingenuity of their designs. Fun fur and foam doesn’t sound attractive until you actually see how it looks at the bottom of a sleeve or edge of a skirt. From UFO and orbit dresses, mini cyber kilts and tops covered in circuitry designs, Cyberdog brings you clothing that are fashions from another planet. I strongly suggest visiting their website so you may view for yourself just how diverse, fun and completely alien their clothing really is. T shirts and glow sticks sell the best, but surprisingly the weird vests and dresses with foam sell really well also. Maybe there are more aliens living amongst us than we realize!
They just launched a children’s wear collection and are considering a home wear line. One of their favorite designs is Cybergirl which is a t-shirt that has become an icon. I asked Tim, whose is also responsible for walking the dog, why goggles seem to be a cyber staple and an accessory of the future.
"With radiation increasing In the future we will all need something to protect our eyes! Also, they just look fuckin cool! We are always coming out with new and wonderful products, which we get from our travels into the future, and bring back to this current time. It avoids paying customs that way."
They have many locations where you may find their shops such as Manchester, Brighton, Ibiza, Tokyo and of course, cyberspace. They continue to expand and hope to have the first store located on the moon. Their most famous store is located in Camden in North London which is not only well known for their unique, interesting clothing but for their go-go dancers. Apparently Chi Chi really likes dancers. Sections of their stores are under black light so you may experience how the clothing changes into incandescent colors and see how it will look when you go to your favorite night club. This is especially important because sometimes the colors under black light can be quite different from the hue you see in regular light. The store not only carries clothing but anything Cyber they can think of. Cyberdog is the place to go to fulfill all your cyber lusts. They are inspired by music and technology and they want their stores to be the one stop shop for alternative people.
"We appeal to alternative people who don’t want to be boring. The scene in Camden is the single biggest inspiration and the fashions that kids wear there. Our staff is also an inspiration, and we always look for really creative team members."
Currently, Cyberdog’s biggest competition is the Martians therefore they keep working on being a step ahead of them and constantly giving us new ways to look and play.
"Future technology is here today. Let’s celebrate the future that we are living in. Be cautious about the future but don’t be afraid of it. Humans do screw up all the time, but you have to have faith that there enough good people to out way the nasty ones. And if it all goes to hell in a hand cart, technology, either Earth technology, or other ;-) will save us. Never look back. Our motto is “The future is here now…enjoy.”"
I have discovered that my assumptions have been correct that cyber clothing and Cyberdog in particular is striving for world domination in fashion. People kept saying Goth was dead because there was no room for it to expand and go forward since it was based on fashions of the past. As usual people’s opinions are fallible. It has not only gone forward but into the future. cyberdog.net
